From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
I believe it is entirely up to journalists and their employers as to how they will survive. Let them deal with market changes and adjust accordingly. I absolutely oppose any and all forms of taxes or fees on internet news sources, or "funds" supported by tax or "fee" dollars that would subsidize journalists' salaries or that would in some way support media or journalism organizations. That is absolutely outrageous. Since when is it the job of the government to insure the continued existence of any organization or profession? To me this sounds like a government effort to control or censor free speech. I adamantly oppose the FTC's involvement in any such effort. Please do not add to the free speech restraints being imposed upon the citizens of this country. It is your job to protect them, not to erode them further.
