From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
I am highly agitated over the news I received that our First Amendment right to free speech is going to be penalized with proposed taxation from a corrupt and leftist administration. Let me point out that a free press and free speech are foundational to a free people. To penalize anyone in this country with draconian taxation (or any taxation, for that matter) for having a contrary opinion or for speaking out against the regime is unAmerican. If you want to micromanage this people, you will meet with disappointment. The proposed rule adds insult to injury by using public funding to train state propagandists contrary to the welfare and liberty of the people. If the Progressives (aka regressives, atavists, communists, OWGers) want to train a fifth column, they can do it with their own money. There are plenty of wealthy progressives. Let them back up their idealism with some realism. This proposal is a travesty, unconstitutional, a big step across the line of propriety, and will result in more anti-government sentiment than even the draconian health care fiat fiasco. Do not proceed in this direction.
