From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
The Federal Trade Commission's “Potential Policy Recommendations to Support the Reinvention of Journalism,” is a bureaucratic plan to insinuate government into the very information that forms the basis for our Republic. Coming on the heels of the government’s new $350-billion national broadband plan, this shows an extensive attempt by the Obama administration to seize control of the press. What is the FTC (and for that matter Congress, the FCC and more) doing messing with journalism? This is an attempt to rob us of our Constitutional right of free speech. Our Constitution states: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press.” I vehemently object to the government controlling/doling out information that we can get. This is AMERICA; freedom of speech and freedom of the press are the foundational rights of Americans.
