From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
This seems like the latest attempt of our Federal Government to artificially prop up a failed business model while at the same time rewarding supporters of the current administration in Washington, DC. Traditional sources of news, especially newspapers, are failing because, with the advent of non-traditional news sources such as talk radio and internet reporting, people throughout the world are no longer restricted to accepting the biased news reported by traditional journalists. As usual, your are disguising this proposal as an effort to "protect me" from the new unreliable sources of news that I may be exposed to. Yet the proposal will protect me by limiting the information I have access to while propping up news organizations that are extremely biased. Seems like the true purpose of this proposal is to limit what information I see or hear to that information "approved" by the Government. Do you really believe this is what the founders had in mind when they enshrined the concept of free speech in the constitution through the amendment process? Did you receive help from Hugo Chavez in drafting this document?
