From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
I oppose any attempt for the FCC to regulate the internet in any fashion. This is a blatent attempt to control speech and reduce governments accountability to the citizenry through illegal regulation rather than through legislation. If government was not stepping outside of their bounds there would be no reason to control the message. So we know what the intent is. The FTC's proposal for the “Reinvention of Journalism” is also an attempt to furher control the message and reduce governmental accountability. The FTC has no legislated authority to create a “journalism division” of AmeriCorps and levy taxes on the private sector to fund it. Call the tax by any other name, such as permit or license fee does not change what it is. If either of these activities are ever considered "law" such that penalties are attempted to be enforced, the citizenry will have the necessary evidence that the FTC and FCC are part of an outlaw government, as again no legislation will have created the authority.
