From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
Journalism will survive in a society that has access to the truth. If the government tries to control journalism, it will become propoganda. In my opinion, the "old media" is losing followers because they have become blatant propogandists for the left. With the internet and its multitude of voices, I can research an issue from many sides and distill what is probably the truth and what is posturing. In this light, the "old media" which has had a tight rein on the dissemination of news is now seen in its true light, as being very biased and controlling both now and historically. Reinforcing the status quo of the "old media" and squelching the independent voices of the new media and passing it off as an economic effort is disingenuous. The government should be aiding the people in the directions they want to go, not limiting their options.
