From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
In no way should the US Government be allowed to infringe, or influence, any of the media; taxpayer money would allow that to happen. The "spin" that the existing media puts on all subjects, giving their point of view rather than just the facts, is disturbing but must be allowed so that government is not allowed to hide facts or allow only the "official" story to be published. As hard as it is to watch the slant of either the left or the right on issues, it is far preferable to any government intervention. Allowing this to become a law of the land would put the sitting government officials directly in command of the media and would significantly damage the press's "free speech" requirement under the constitution. The press must be allowed to excel or perish based on how the companies are presenting the news by the american people; popular ones excel and poor news broadcasts/papers perish. That's the way that american businesses operate today and must operate in the future. Messy? Yes! Evolving? Yes! Some rediculous? Yes! Totally necessary to keep a Democracy alive? Absolutely! Taxpayer/Government funded? Are you crazy?!!
