From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
I AM WRITING TO REGISTER MY DISAPPROVAL OF THIS PROPOSED PLAN FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS; 1-WHAT IS PASSING AS JOURNALISM TODAY, PARTICULARLY IN THE POLITICAL ARENA, IS "SPIN" AND NOT NEWS. IF YOU ARE GOING TO RELEASE A NEWS STORY, MAKE SURE IT'S THE TRUTH AND NOT SOME POLITICAL PARTY'S OPINION OF THE TRUTH. 2-NO SPECIAL TAXES SHOULD EVER BE CREATED TO PENALIZE SOMEONE BECAUSE THEIR VIEWS ARE IN OPPOSITION TO ONE POLITICAL PARTY OR THE OTHER, OR EVEN OPPOSING RELIGIOUS VIEWS. IT IS JUST WRONG. TRYING TO CONTROL FREE SPEECH IN ORDER TO GET YOUR MESSAGE OUT AND HOLD BACK THE OPPOSITIONS VIEW POINT ISN'T WHAT FREE SPEECH IS ABOUT. 3-JOURNALISTS ARE PAID FOR THEIR WORK AND THE MEDIA IS PAID HANDSOMELY TO ADVERTISE THE GOODS COMPANIES PRODUCE. THERE IS NO NEED TO "TAX" THE CITIZENS OF THIS COUNTRY IN ORDER TO MAKE SURE WE, THE TAX PAYING PUBLIC, GET A BIASED "LIBERAL MESSAGE" WHEN IT ISN'T TRUTH AT ALL-JUST SPIN-OR LIES. IF PEOPLE ARE CHECKING OUT OF THE OLD SYSTEM OF GETTING THEIR NEWS, WHOSE FAULT IS THAT ANY WAY. IF YOU ARE NOT FILLING THE NEEDS OF THE PEOPLE, WHY WOULD YOU THINK THE PEOPLE WANT TO PAY FOR THAT "HONOR"? 4-I THINK THIS KIND LEGAL "TOMFOOLERY" IS PROBABLY IN VIOLATION OF THE CONSTITUTION AND IT'S JUST ANOTHER EFFORT TO INCREASE CONTROL OF THE MEDIA AND EVENTUALLY PEOPLES MINDS. PLEASE, DO NOT PASS THIS OR ANY OTHER SIMILAR LEGISLATION-EVER. THANK YOU, ROBERT UPSHAW
