Rules and Regulations Under The Textile Fiber Products Identification Act

My company has worked for two years in the market development of DuPont’s new PTT fabric trade named Sorona®. This newly available fabric marketed under the technical class of PET is misleading to our customers. Polyester is a low-rated fabric from the standpoint of price and quality with no special new characteristics as are available from this technical innovation by Dupont. These new characteristics include: 37% reduction in the use of petrochemicals by substituting natural oils through fermentation, softer hand feel, better “fabric memory” returning to 100% of its former shape after 50% stretch, natural chlorine resistance and better retention of dyed colors. At a time when “green” products, saving petroleum, are sought by customers it is a disservice to them to call this product polyester which virtually precludes their interest in this new product with its advantages to them and our economy. Please create a separate classification for this product so marketing can provide a clear understanding for customers..
