I have worked in the Diamond and Jewelry Appraisal profession for over 23 years. Suggestion: To eliminate confusion (1) One way would be to continue to stamp platinum with a number of fineness as is done with 950 Plat (95%) indicates 5% iridium and 900 Plat (90 %) indicates 10% iridium. Thus would be ex. giv 580 Plat (58%) indicating 42% Iridium (Not to be confused with:" 585 gold) 14K". It may be important to maintain a standard base metal for platinum.
