I was one of the victims of the 200,000 social security number hack of the UCLA database. Due to the nature of that crime, being specifically directed toward acquiring SSNs, I will have to worry and be diligent about my information for the rest of my life. It is not fair that through no fault of my own, I either have to waste time going online to check my credit report (and god forbid I ever find things that are anomalous!), or pay for someone to monitor my credit for me. Credit freezing protects people like me, who were victims through no fault of their own, and gives me peace of mind knowing that I am protected without having to *pay* someone to keep my information safe.
