As a graduate student dealing with food issues, I would like to file my comment to the effect of supporting strong restrictions on the advertising of low-nutritional value foods to children. The overwhelming evidence at my disposal has shown that children are susceptible to advertising and that a decrease in current advertising actions would lead to a more healthful diet in American children. The argument that American jobs are at risk is a misguided attempt to preserve business practices that are, in and of themselves, misguided. To cause detriment to the health of our children is not laudable employment. It is unfortunate that the situation has come to this, but we would be shameful to let it continue and put the future of our country in harm's way. Diet-related diseases are a national priority. In my opinion, limiting the marketing of poor products to our most vulnerable will do much to set the United States on an improved course. Thank you for your work.
