Statement of Policy Regarding Communications in Connection with Collection of a Decedent’s Debt, Project No. P104806

I object to these changes in policy allowing debt collectors to 'widen' the circle of people who can be contacted after a person dies. While it is true that the debt doesn't 'disappear' after a person dies, the debt is at that point attached to the estate of the deceased and can be collected upon it's sale and liquidation. Allowing debt collectors to contact persons not directly related to the deceased and attempt to guilt them into paying the debt is morally reprehensible and should be outlawed, not permitted. This measure is even more outrageous when you consider that the majority of the people affected by this will be in the twilight of their lives, bereaved, grieving, and easy prey for underhanded collections.
