Guides for the Use of Environmental Marketing Claims, Project No. P954501

Personal Care products such as shampoo, body wash and make-up are using names that imply that they are made from organic ingredients. Consumers who purchase organic food, regulated by the FDA, are assured that food items that claim to be organic are made in strict compliance with the organic standards act. However, since Personal care product labels are not regulated, companies are taking advantage of a consumers by implying that these products also fall under the same guidelines. The use of the word organic should be backed up by third party certification for personal care products in a similar manner as applies to food. This will protect the integrity of products labeled organic and protect consumers from fraudlent claims. Thank you for considering my comments.
