The non-regulation of the use of the term "organic" in personal care and cosmetics is misleading. As a consumer, I feel manipulated by companies that play off of a concern for my health and the environment to have me pay a higher price for what is essentially the same nasty chemical make-up as the other products I am trying to avoid. It is especially bad when they aren't required to have full disclosure of their ingredients so I can double check what is actually in what I'm buying. I am willing to pay a higher price for organic products, but know that the only place the organic label means anything is with food. It is a shame for cosmetic and personal care companies that are trying to do the responsible thing and produce high-quality organic goods--they don't get the credit they deserve or the loyal consumers they deserve because their competition muddies the water with so many false claims. We need to create a legal standard that separates the real deal products and companies from the false advertisers.
