As an owner of a dry cleaning establishment, I am dumbfounded that it is even being discussed to remove the requirement of a Care Label on all garments. There is no question that manufacturers of clothes should create a garment that may be cleaned & finished without incurring damage. Without the requirement of a Care Label, they could (and would) create garments that could not be cleaned. I don't believe we've entered into the world of "disposable clothing. Bottom line is our customers can't afford to purchase garments that cannot be maintained and we as small businesses (the backbone of America's economy) literally can't afford the responsibility of standing behind an unserviceable garment. Since we are the party directly involved with the customer, we would be held responsible for the garment even if the damage was no fault of ours. The need for Care Labels on garments is the equivalent of the FDA governing the foods and drugs we ingest into our body. I strongly oppose a change in legislation that would not require Care Labels accompany every article of clothing manufactured. I ask you to seriously think about the longterm consequences of allowing the clothing industry to be so careless and not be held accountable for the products they create. I thank you for your consideration.
