To whom it may concern: Expanding the ability of debt collectors to contact family members of a deceased person does not give any consumer protection to anyone. Yes, the for the most part the companies who currently abide by the law may not misuse this, but it isn't those companies consumers should be worried about. There are still large numbers of unscrupulous collectors out there that consistly disregard our current laws. why give them an opportunity to harass people in such an emotional and sometimes traumatic situation as a death in the family. Particularly in a situation, where the call recipient might not be fully aware of the law and end up paying a debt collector for something that is not and never was a financial responsibility for them. I thought the FTC's job was in part to protect the consumer, not to give potential carte blanche to debt collection by creating this situation which could be fraught with potential loopholes. This would be irresponsible and fly in the face of the consumer responsiblity of the FTC.
