FTC Forum in May 2011 Will Examine Ways to Protect Consumers From “Cramming” of Unauthorized Charges on Their Phone Bills, Project No. P104403

Unauthorized charges on our AT&T bill from Coast to Coast LLC for voice mail services that were never requested. Only by careful inspection of each phone bill can these charges be identified. Time Warner Cable allows you to block any additional charges (on demand movies etc) - why can't consumers tell AT&T to never allow third party charges on my phone bill? Call agent at AT&T says that of the 70 phone calls each day he handles, anywhere from 1 to 3 have to do with this. The president of the company, Charles R Darst has a checkered past with complaints in FCC, USPS and civil court records. Other companies owned by same person with same issues include New Link Network LLC, VoiceXpress Inc, USA Voice Mail Inc, NS Voice Mail LLC. Why is it that AT&T can pass through charges with little or no documentation or customer verification? Attached documents include links and other examples. Steve Wolfert
