I think that this is a good start since obesity is the cause of many health issues, and the education of parents and children to understand and manage this is greatly needed. Why not start at the pre-school or school systems Since each state and/or the federal goverment subsidizes the food lunch program for schools, this would be a first step to introducing parents and children to better eating habits. I really don't think that the school lunch menus give students the option of better eating. Especially when they are serving food that has exceeded the expiration dates, or serving canned foods containing high fructrose or other preservatives that cause issues. There is a gentleman on TV that has tried to get the school systems to understand what foods are being servied and how the menu can be updated to apply better eating habits with better choices. Why not get these chefs that can give better ideas on cooking and serving foods a chance to prove themselves This could be a good way to serve children better foods and sell or offer cookbooks to help parents understand that there are better choices. AND MOST IMPORTANT IS THE COST OF EATING FRESH FRUITS AND VEGETABLES ARE RISING, the low income who do reiceve the school breakfast/lunch programs shoudl be revamped to match the better eating habits that the federal government is trying to promote.
