|Rule:||FTC Seeks Public Comments on Trustee's Proposal to Divest One Store under Whole Foods Market Inc. Divestiture Order; Docket No. 9324; FTC File No. 071 0114|
Comments:The metropolitan area that encompasses Portland, Maine has a vibrant and growing population, with many senior citizens who have migrated here as retirees. Granted there are some small specialty food stores, but primarily food shopping is limited to Shaws and Hannoford. The opening of Whole Foods two years ago provided an alternative, but one with substantially higher prices. The opening of a Trader Joe's will provide some needed competition, especially for those persons who wish to purchase organic foods and foods without additives such as MSG. A denial of the sale of the former Wild Oats building to Trader Joe's would be a monumental, administrative blunder. Please recognize that the opening of a Trader Joe's in the Portland area has been a "cause" for many of us for at least five years.
