Comments:I am writing to enthusiastically support Trader Joe's application to open a store in Portland, Maine. Trader Joe's has an excellent selection of good food at reasonable prices and its arrival in this market would stimulate significant competition with other grocery stores. Consumers would benefit a great deal from this competition. Trader Joe's offers a unique selection of products that would greatly expand consumer choices in southern Maine. In addition, TJ's reasonable prices would provide a welcome contrast to some current operations in the same area. (Ahem, I'm looking at you, Whole Foods.) Currently, many Maine fans of TJ's products have to travel to Massachusetts to buy them. (Well, really, what we do is make sure we stop at a Trader Joe's nearly every time we find ourselves down there. This is true for my family and for many of our friends.) The day a Trader Joe's opens in Portland will be a happy, happy day.
