I live in Santa Monica, California. I was dismayed to hear that no former Wild Oats stores in California would revert back in my state. Before the combination of of the two entities, Santa Monica (population 80,000+) had 2 small Wild Oates stores and one large Whole Foods store. Since the combination, a new, large Whole Foods has opened one block outside the Santa Monica border in Venice, California. Basically, Santa Monica now has 4 Whole Foods stores with no competition. Wild Oats had sale circulars, in-store specials, and lots of other great deals. Whole Foods has none of these. How is this fair? Why were no Santa Monica stores taken from Whole Foods?
