Western Digital, File No. 111 0122
We strongly oppose the merger of WD and Hitachi because this will and in effect already has ended competition in the field of hard disks etc.
It already has because at the exact same moment when Seagate was allowed to buy Samsung (a worthy competitor because of its sheer size) the 2 main remaining manufacturers of hard disks (Seagate & WD are the leaders, Toshiba is decoration just as AMD is to Intel) have decided/colluded to reduce warranty times from 5 years to 3 years on their main product lines. This is too obvious to be a coincidence. And since none of the competition protection agencies (FTC nor the EU) have reacted in a way that is effective or seem to be capable to do something about this, this merger has to be stopped cold.
