Telemarketers, in most cases are pests. With the capabilities of the enhanced caller id system companies are able to alter their information so that the actual caller is not represented with the number displayed on the caller id. I believe that the changes should be made to the Telemarketing Sales Rules so that consumers have to right to know who they are dealing with. Most of us are subject to deceiving information and are taken advantage of by not knowing who we are dealing with. This act, in my opinion is a form of false advertisement. How many of us would answer the phone if we saw on the caller id who was actually calling? Hardly any of us. The way they get us is with the false information displayed on the caller id. They, companies who participate in caller id trickery, are luring us in with false advertisement. Would we allow this happen in regular walk in businesses?
The law should be changed to allow law enforcement to use caller id information to id business that use illegal practices.
