I am writing to strongly express my dismay at the possible change in the FTC rules regarding unsolicited phone calls, and allowing pre-recorded, taped phone calls. There is only one thing more annoying than having my activities interrupted by an unsolicited, unwanted phone call, and that's to have it be a recording! The notion of having telemarketers be able to intrude on my life, whether I'm making dinner, giving my pre-schooler a bath, or whatever through the use of a pre-recorded pitch is more irritating than I can imagine. Dropping what I'm to doing to race to the phone and have it be a recording will make my blood boil. I pay for my phone service. I cannot afford caller ID and all the other high tech stuff that screens out unwelcome calls, and why should I have to pay more? Junk mail, junk faxes (for which I purchase the paper and toner!!!), junk e-mail, and now more junk phone calls? Shouldn't the FTC be acting in the best interests of the consumer, and protecting us? If this goes through, I will promptly cease doing business with any company (or charity, for that matter) that calls my phone with a pre-recorded message. Thank you for listening. Denise Connerty
