Comments:
I wish to strongly object to the proposed rule changes allowing companies to telemarket using pre-recorded messages. Unlike an office, a home resident is not sitting by the telephone, awaiting that call from his telemarketer, but is cutting the lawn, washing the dog or sitting on the John. When that telphone rings, there is no way to know whether it is a phone call from your daughter in Nepal, your best friend down the street, or some company trying to get you to put a second mortgage on your home to get you more deeply in debt! A phone call is a phone call and it represents an interruption in your life. Allowing pre-recorded telemarketing totally negates the entire value of the Do Not Call list, in fact the telemarketers would welcome the change because it would cost them less, and reach many more people. I am also upset that information concerning the proposed changes have not been more widely disseminated. I was shocked when I saw the headline on my internet home page and more shocked when I learned that today was the last time for comments. Without diluting my objections to telemarketing, I would also like to voice my objection to e-mail spam. That ranks just below telemarketing on my hate list. I do hope that something can be done to get rid of that nuisance, as well. Sincerely, Eugene Volz
