I am against any relaxation of rules which limit telemarketing calls. In addition to their disruptive nature at home, in the busy modern world many of us forward our home calls to our cellular phones, resulting in the disruption everywhere we go as well as the cost of cellular airtime wasted on unwelcome calls. I forward all my home calls to my cellular phone out of necessity. In my situation, failing to answer the phone usually would have unacceptable consequences and costs. It is not an option to disable my call forwarding in order to flee from unwelcome telemarketing calls. I have experienced many instances when I have had to run out of an important meeting or otherwise answer the phone when doing so would normally be considered inappropriate, but I have done so anyway because the calls I am expecting must not be missed--only to find that I have answered an unwelcome call from a telemarketer. The frustration is compounded by the common practice of telemarketers using blocked caller ID. As a consumer, I have existing business relationships with many dozens of companies. If a significant number of them chose to telemarket me, I would suffer tremendous frustration and disruption as well as cellular, professional and social cost. I have come to appreciate the do-not-call list and found that its inception has significantly reduced the problem. I am truly horified that this tool might be weakened by a change in rules. Please save the telemarketing for the people who do not feel the need to go throught the trouble to put ourselves on the do-not-call list. For those of us who have opted out, don't take us back to the nightmare that existed before. Thank you for creating the do-not-call list. Please keep it strong. Additionally, I would suggest requiring clear caller ID for all telemarketers always. Thank you for considering my comments. Dan Field
