I think that this is a very bad idea that will be miss-used by the telemarketing industry. I (until I got on the do not call list) was being bombarded by telemarketing calls that were automated in nature and would either goto an automated message or would switch to a live human. I found these calls to be more irratating than the normal run of the mill "may I speak to the lady/gentleman of the house" variety! It opens the way for excuses by the telemarketers that the machines were mis-programmed and that is why they called ALL of Omaha or Cleveland or ETC...and they will apologize and promise to never "knowingly" do that again...until the next mis-programming incident, meanwhile alot of people will have been annoyed and be irritated...especially with the government that was supposed to be protecting them from this type of harrassment! Please do NOT allow these people any toehold back into our lives. There is too much advertising at it is...just look on TV for 30 min and you will be bombarded by it. Can't out homes be places of refuge and quiet that we can escape from the fast pace of the world and just be able to relax without having to be constantly on guard of who is calling on the phone at all hours of any day? Do we all have to turn off our ringers to avoid being woke up at 7 or 8am by someone trying to sell us something we really dont need or want (like I used to have to do since I work nights) and then miss important calls (or emergency calls) that we wanted/needed to get? If I want something to buy I research it on the internet or from consumer magazines or from local ads and yes even TV ads, I've gottten along fine withOUT people calling me up incessantly trying to push whatever on me they are selling. I have everthing I want/need thanks to this great country I live in! Please do NOT let the telemarketers back into our lives. My life is so much more peaceful since the Do Not Call List went into activation and I thank the FTC for that!
