Please do NOT weaken the 'Do Not Call' system by permitting direct marketers to call anyone -- even those of us on the Do Not Call list -- with whom they supposedly have a pre-existing business relationship. Contrary to the propaganda of the direct marketers and their trade associations, the change they are asking for would NOT facilitate consumers 'staying in touch with their favorite companies.' I do business, one way or another, online and in stores, with hundreds of companies. That does NOT make any of them my favorite companies, and I do NOT want them to be authorized to resume bothering me with telemarketing calls. (Unwanted promotional mail from them is already plenty bad enough.) The very substantial reduction in telemarketing calls that I receive since I got on the 'Do Not Call' list has been a great blessing. I don't want it undermined by the 'back-door' change the telemarketers are now requesting. I am quite confident that many, many other consumers share my views. Thank you for taking my public-interest view into account.
