Since signing up with the Do Not Call registry, the number of UNWANTED phone calls I receive has been reduced dramatically, probably by 80% or more. I am very grateful that we now have a way to insure public privacy, which I believe is the paramount issue - not the telemarketing industry's attempt at profits. If the a member of the public does not wish to be contacted by cold call telemarketers, s/he SHOULD NOT be in the position that existed before, trying to find a way to end the 5 to 10 or more interruptive phone calls per day. I am FIRMLY OPPOSED TO ANY LEGISLATIVE OR FTC INITIATIVES THAT WOULD ALLOW TELEMARKETERS FREER ACCESS TO MY PHONE, even with the limits described in the new provisions above. If that cuts significantly into their business, perhaps they should think about new career options!
