Prerecorded messages are just as annoying as live ones. Additionally, if you answer, hang up, and then again lift the receiver, the message is often still going. This means you can't receive or make a phone call immediately, which could be dangerous as well. Also, if you call in to check messages, you end up paying to listen to something you never asked to hear to begin with. So, in short, such calls are annoying, costly, and could present a danger by tying up your phone line.
