The DO NOT CALL registry is the best ruling the FTC ever registered. Those annoying, unwanted calls were reduced to just a few a week from dozens a week (even the few that still get through are still annoying). The new proposal is senseless. The annoyance is the phone call, not whether it's from a live person or a prerecorded message----what's the difference to the recipient from whom the ringing comes?? The bottom line is that unwanted telemarketing is just that--unwanted by those who so specify and a Do Not Call list should be maintained. Is the Federal government and the FTC unduly influenced by the Telemarket lobbies thus the push to resume unsolicited calls???? Leave the Do Not Call list as is.
