I am absolutely opposed to this proposed rule change. As it is now I get an average of 2 calls per week from "recordings." And I've had my telephone regerstered on the Do Not Call System since 6/03. My home phone is for my personal use. I don't give it to anyone unless I choose to do so. There is no reason I should have to put up with spam calls. And now there's new schemes to get around the do not call!. I can't tell you how many calls I get from "Betty" or "Tom" or "Bill ... I'm calling you back regarding your interest in making $2,000 per week from working at home." or like the one I got tonight form Paul Mathews at The Lending Group (1-800-599-0235 x4010) regarding the paperwork for my mortgage refi" A refi I"ve never applied for! Sure, they can say it was a wrong number, but you don't have be be a rocket scientist to figure out what is going on. Then I get the calls that "I"ve won" something or better the one that I answer and when I tell them they have the wrong number, they say well let me talk to you! NO, these telemaketers have already figured out how to get around the do not call ... the FTC doesn't and SHOULD NOT make it easier for them. They are into this for the money ... my family's peace should not be for sale by my government.
