I am totally against this proposed change. Clearly this change only benefits the companies that want to bombard people with advertsising. The majority of people don't wan't to be bothered by advertising phone calls or messages left on their answering machines regardless of whether or not they have a current or prior business relationship with the company calling them. I pay for phone service to use at my pleasure. I do NOT pay for phone service so that it provides a conduit for businesses to bombard me with advertising and special offers which is about all these phone calls are in reality. If these companies want to send out information to their customers they can put it in the mail where they pay for the postage and the pleasure of using the United States Post Office. I pay for phone service for me and not for comapnies so that they can bother me with either live persons delivering messages or automated messages left on my answering machine. The last thing the majority of Americans needs is to have their answering machines invaded by advertising. How hard is it to make a decison where the ineterests of the American people and their privacy at home are more important than special interetest businesses out to seek profits? Clearly this proposed chang benefits the few and not the majority of the parties involved.
