I hope that the FTC will reject the petition from the Direct Marketing Association. People signed up for the Do Not Call Registry with the understanding that it would prevent them from receiving telemarketing calls. If this idea goes through, the FTC will become part of a scam on the American people to trick them into getting more telemarketing calls instead of less. Automated calls which is what the "proposal" would allow are the worst kind of telemarketing calls because they tie up the line and do not allow you to hang up. Prior to Do Not Call, many people I know used various screening schemes that could prevent incoming emergency calls from being received. Having our phones available to be inundated with unwanted calls forces people to choose between being able to receive these kinds of incomming emergency calls (such as calls from a school about a child), and the ability to not receive marketing calls. Please do not change Do Not Call! People's trust in government is at stake.
