Comments:
I am adamantly opposed to the amendment that would permit prerecorded telemarketing calls. As it is, I have no desire to hear from most of the companies with which I have an established business relationship. I am quite capbable of contacting them myself at my convenience if I want to conduct further business with them, and I find recorded messages insulting and annoying. I also don't trust marketers to accurately decide whether they have an "established business relationship" with me, and with a recorded call I would have no opportunity to tell them to take me off their list. As for the second proposed amendment, I am highly suspicious of any effort by the Direct Marketing Association to amend the Telemarketing Sales Rule. I am confident that their proposed modification does not stem from a desire to improve the life of telephone customers like me, and is more likely designed to allow them to frustrate the intent of the TSR in some fashion
