I am deeply disturbed by this proposal for several reasons: 1) I submitted my telephone number to PREVENT telemarketers from bothering me. It does not matter if I have, at some point in the past, done business with them - I DO NOT WANT TO BE MARKETED AT. 2) I do not like the idea that the telemarketers can simply hang a tape deck off an autodialer - I want to be able to clearly notify anybody who does call me to STOP CALLING ME. An automated system may have a "failure" to record my desire to not be bothered. 3) I am disturbed by the way the government seems to be siding more with the businesses of this nation, rather than the PEOPLE of this nation. The support for the Do Not Call List was overwhelming - the only entities who opposed it were the telemarketers. The fact that the FTC is ignoring the will of the people for the benefit of the telemarketers makes me think the FTC has lost sight of for whom it works.
