The Do Not Call Registry is a great tool for the American Public. Unfortunately what I have read in a newspaper article yesterday goes to show just how much influence lobbyists have on Congress. The members of Congress are supposed to have the best interests of their constituents in mind, but most of the time they are more worried about getting re-elected. So, in the process they give away the rights of us middle-class citizens who put them where they are. They often sell us out. When I read words like "opt-in" plan, it make my blood boil. Some idiots in Congress not too many years ago gave away my rights to privacy regarding my credit cards. By this I mean they created a nightmare for the consumer by making us have to beg the credit card company to keep our personal information, personal, instead of them having to have our permission to let it out. This is the most aggravating situation. Now I get these opt-out agreements on a continuous basis from literally every vendor I buy from. In order to keep things straight, I have to keep a file on them so I know which ones have to be revised or renewed. It is such a pain in the neck. I know the deal here. These companies are banking on most of it's customers not bothering with this, kind of like using coupons or rebates. Plus, I am already getting pre-recorded telephone messages. You can always tell, because there is a hesitation before they start. So, I just lift the receiver and put it back down. However, they keep calling back and harrassing you, even though I am on the Do Not Call Registry. Finally, you to let them know on no certain terms you are not interested. So, in conclusion, let me just say that I am not too thrilled with this latest development.I pray that pre-recorded message telemarketing" doesn't get off the ground. I get enough spam through e-mail. Loopholes are great for those who want to "get around the system!" Thank you for letting me vent my frustations. Sincerely Steve Folsom Maine
