Please do NOT "loosen the reins on junk callers". Recorded political and telemarketing messages are the worst, especially if I am away from home. They fill up my answering machine's available space and crowd out messages I really want to receive. I went to Europe for 23 days, and my answering machine was filled to the max with unwanted messages. My children were complaining they couldn't leave me important info. At least when I am home, I can hang up as soon as I realize it is a telemarketer or recorded politician. When it is recorded on my answering machine, I have to let the entire message play out before I can erase it! When they get forwarded to my cellphone, I am actually paying for their message, which seems hardly fair. All these telemarketers should realize that only voluntary listeners will possibly respond favorably to marketing. "A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still." Please save us from these pesky invasions of privacy, or I shall have to return to using my Radio Shack "zapper" to cut off computerized calls. That zapping signal is annoying to my friends and family; but at least rids my own ears of the unwanted junk calls. Other invasions of peace and privacy still come through: solicitations for diseases, charities, political parties and candidates, and local businesses willing to use real humans to dial and speak, are not prevented from making their unwelcome intrusions on my private time. More and more of us will resort to unlisted numbers, which is not the way to maintain open lines of communication with true, old friends and relations. Thank you for this opportunity to express my opinion. Barbara A. Jamieson of Tucson AZ and Orcas Island, WA
