Thank you for considering the monopoly effect of Tops Market owning and operating three full size grocery stores in our small valley. Over the years we have had the benefit of having at least two competitive groceries and sometimes three large stores. Since the transfer of P&C to TOPS, we have seen a significant increase in the prices of many items. We also have less variety of brands to select. These stores serve not only our valley but a large portion of Bradford county in Pa. as well as a portion of Tioga county in N.Y.. I would like to see another market provider in the other two stores taken over by TOPS. Since Weis and PriceChopper had shown previous interest, I would like to see them given the opportunity to compete in our valley. The comments by union leaders of TOPS employees that Walmart is a significant competition is unrealistic since our Walmart is not a full scale grocery but only handles select grocery items similar to a mini-mart. Thank you for the opportunity to comment on this issue.
