Subject: "Cigarette_and_Smokeless_Tobacco_Reports

The need for "Cigarette and Smokeless Tobacco Reports is vital for ALA of ND with having accurate information about sales, marketing and promotion. We are able to use this information to educate the our Representatives and Senators along with the public about the Cigarettes and Smokeless Tobacco companies tactics.

This information is useful for educating the youth about how and why the tobacco companies want them for their customers.

The impact and financial money that the tobacco companies spend versus the money we spend on educating about the harmful health effects. You are clearly able to see that they spend more money selling their product than states spend protecting their citizens.

We urge you to continue providing the "Cigarette and Smokeless Tobacco Product Reports", it is a vital document to our fight against tobacco.

Sincerely,

Susan Kahler
Executive Director
ALA of ND

ALA requests at the FTC expand on the current reports by providing:

  • state-by-state breakdowns of the reported marketing expenditures;

  • company-specific or even brand-specific marketing expenditure data;

breakdowns of the different types of expenditures the companies make within the existing promotional-allowance and retail-value-added expenditure categories (which account for the vast majority of all promotional spending by the companies)
