Re: Continuation of Tobacco Industry Marketing Reports

The American Lung Association of Gulfcoast Florida urges you to continue issuing reports on on how much cigarette and smokeless tobacco companies spend each year to market and promote their deadly products.

  • These reports are VITAL TOOLS in our fight against tobacco-related death and disease,

  • They are essential sources of ACCURATE AND RELIABLE INFORMATION on the tobacco industry's marketing, sales and promotions in the US.

The ALA of Gulfcoast Florida requests that the FTC EXPAND on current reports by providing:

  • state-by-state breakdowns of reported marketing expenditures;

  • company-specific or even brand-specific marketing expenditure data;

  • breakdowns of the different types of expenditures the companies make within the existing promotional allowance and retail-value-added expenditure categories (which account for the vast majority of all promotional spending by the companies)

These reports are very important for public health efforts aimed at monitoring the tobacco comapnies' deceptive marketing tactics. We urge you to continue and EXPAND these tobacco industry reports.
