Wed, Jul 19, 2000 2:48 PM Subject: Warning labels on spit tobacco cans To The Secretary: On behalf of the Georgia Spit Tobacco Education Program, I would like to register our support for the recommendations as outlined in the letter sent to you by Dr. Robert Klaus of Oral Health America. The letter was dated July 6, 2000. As part of the National Spit Tobacco Education Program, I see first hand the results of the years of intensive and deceptive advertising by the spit tobacco industry. Rather than being an "old man's" habit, spit tobacco use has reached almost epidemic proportions among 16-24 year olds. GSTEP believes that larger, more prominent warning labels will support our campaign of education and community involvement in tobacco use prevention. Once again, GSTEP supports the recommendations to the Committee, as expressed in the July 6, 2000 letter from Oral Health America. Thank you for your attention, Sue Dodd, Director of Programs and Education for Georgia Spit Tobacco Education Program |
