09-27-07 To Whom It May Concern: RE: 16 CFR Part 303 - Textile Rule 8, Mohawk, Dupont, and PTT Canada Comment Matter No. po74201. We feel the Mohawk SmartStrand carpet using Dupont Sorona poly-based fiber technology stands up to wear as well as nylon; it uses a continuous filament fiber so that it doesn't shed like traditional polyester; it's stain resistance is engineered in instead of being a coating (lifetime stain resistance warranty). Mohawk's SmartStrand with DuPont Sorona polymer is not a polyester carpet. It is manufactured using a polymer derived from corn. It is acclaimed to feel softer than polyester or nylon, has built-in stain protection, UV protection, and washes well. Furthermore, SmartStrand carpet fiber, made with DuPont Sorona polymer, represents a breakthrough in fiber technology. It is basically a new type of carpet fiber that combines exceptional durability with permanent protection in stain resistance. * Permanent protection against stains * Exceptional, long-lasting durability * Softness * Variety of beautiful styles * Excellent color clarity * Revolutionary clean-ability SmartStrand fibers provide permanent stain protection that is literally built-in to the fiber so it can never wear or clean off. This extraordinary new generation of fiber is not stain proof, but independent testing labs have confirmed that carpets made with SmartStrand fiber provide enhanced stain resistant protection. Usually tough stains such as red wine, mustard, taco sauce, coffee, and bleach have vanished with nothing more than hot water and a little detergent. In fact, its stain resistance is so good that, for the first time, Mohawk is offering a Limited Lifetime Stain Warranty for SmartStrand products. That is why we personally feel it would be more beneficial to have this product labeled without any reference to polyester. Thank you, STEVE ISSIS, president
