Having worked in loan operations for over 30 years, I do not understand the necessity of printing SSN on any loan document. Every credit application I have seen, has an area to insert the SSN and the customer signs the application(in most cases). I believe printing the number on loan documents provides an additional opportunity for ID theft. People do make mistakes--one clerical error in how a paid loan is handled could result in many nightmare years for a borrower. I hope you will urge all lenders to discontinue this practice. The printing of the SSN on loan docs does not accomplish anything. If the loan is fraudulent, so is the application.
