Comments:
Because there are now more than one TV picture shape, the diagonal measurment no longer gives an accurate picture of the size of the TV screen. It should be replaced by either (a) the width AND height of the picture and/or (b) the picture area. Linear dimensions should be specified in millimetres or centimetres, and areas in square millimetres or square centimetres (a) to conform with Congressional acts that have specified the SI metric system to be the preferred system of weights and measures for trade and commerce in the US, and (b) to standardize the specifications with the rest of the world, virtually all of which uses SI metric.
