I feel that this requirement is unnecessary. It would add an unusual burden in having to write a prescription for every client. I already write many prescriptions for my clients as they are aware that they can get many drugs from the drug store. It could also be a dangerous proposition as some of the human drug equivalents are not available in the same form or concentrations as the already available pet drug. The human formulation on these drugs may not have the same bioavailability as the pet form and could lead to severe side effects. I recently had a client ask for a human drug formulation that has in the past led to animal illness and death. The pharmacist had suggested the drug. What is their training in animal pharmacy/physiology. I don't believe they have the training to be adequately involved in every animal prescription. Please listen to all my colleges and reject this request from the big corporations.
