The veterinarians that we have dealt with prefer to fill prescriptions and charge for the medicine out of their own stock. They profit from the prescription as well as the visit. When asked for a portable prescription, they balk, but will do it for a $10-$20 "prescription fee." This seems quite unethical, if not illegal. If I did this in my medical practice, I would be run out of town.
