The Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association (ISVMA) was established in 1881 to advance the well-being of the veterinary profession, animals, the public and the environment. ISVMA represents nearly 2900 veterinary professionals in Illinois.
The Federal Trade Commission is seeking public commments in connection with a workshop to examine competition and consumer protection issues in the pet medications industry.
The ISVMA has very serious concerns with mandatory prescription writing for veterinarians. Althought there are issues related to efficiency in practice management, our strongest concerns are related to the well-being of the patients veterinarians serve.
The ISVMA is in full support of the positions outlined by the AVMA and Dr. James Wilson (see attached). Both letters do an excellent job of outlining our concerns and need not be repeated in this letter. It is important, however, that the FTC is aware of the opposition and concern from the 2900 members served by ISVMA.
Thank you for your attention to our concerns.
