Changing the law is unnecessary, I am more than happy to give written prescriptions when requested. If I have to start writing prescriptions for every patient whether there is a request or not, I feel there will be a negative effect on the way I need to practice as a sole practitioner. I will have to scheduled time away from the patient to comply with this change. In my practice these prescriptions will need to be hand written, as our current computer system is not equipped to handle this type of data. I also know several other sole practitioners who are not computerized at all. I have not heard of a practitioner refusing to give a written prescription when asked unless there is a medical reason.
